On the right bank of the Gorges
On the way you will discover:
Moustier Sainte Marie, famous for its earthenware, its 12th century Notre-Dame de Beauvoir chapel and its hanging star.
A little bit farther, the Galetas belvedere from where you will have a panoramic view of the Sainte Croix lake and its emerald green water, sometimes blue depending on the Mistral and the weather condition.
The tuf de Saint Maurin waterfalls and its caves which have housed the Lérins monks in the 5th century.
The Mayreste belvedere and the quiet atmosphere of its old castle converted into a farm, Passing through the Ayen pass (1,031 m) you can see some chamois, then you will go down straight to La Palud sur Verdon, fief of the Counts of Provence with its 12th century Romanesque bell tower and its 18th century castle, famous and unmissable loop on the Route des Crêtes, amazing 24 km of belvederes and canyons where you can see climbers on the rock faces and the majestic tawny vultures of the Verdon.
A few kilometers to the north, the must-see old abandoned village of Châteauneuf les Moustiers and to the east Rougon, an eagle-shape village and its Point Sublime overlooking the Couloir Samson, a real fortress guarding the entrance of the Gorges.
On the left bank of the Verdon gorges
Explore the Var side crossing the Pont de Soleil. You will discover the medieval village of Trigance and its castle (you should stop at the bakery).
Nice walk towards the Jabron gorges and the small Sautet bridge. On the way you will be seduced by the Balcon de la Mescla. A viewpoint above the point where the Artuby River flows into Verdon.
You will cross the Artuby bridge, a single arch of 110 meters and 180 meters high. This is the highest bridge in Europe allowing the practice of bungee jumping.
You will go through the Fayet tunnels, pass the Cavaliers cliffs, to admire the Rue d'eau where the Verdon flows into the artificial Lake of Sainte-Croix that you can see from the Cirque de Vaumale situated at more than 1100 m high.
Finally you can stroll in Aiguines, old village of boxwood turners with coloured roofs houses and visit its castle.
Horse riding, mountain biking, hiking, river walking... and many other places to discover as : Col d'Allos, Gorges du Daluis, Annot and its boulders, Digne les bains and its nature reserve, the Mediterranean sea (about 1 hour drive...).
